Exploring the legal wastelands in film

Silvia Schmidt

Law? What law? The contracts you need to know if you want to bullet proof your film.

This talk will cover the basic legals every producer and filmmaker should know about. If you are a producer or filmmaker and you want to avoid legal pitfalls, then this talk is for you.

Taking it from the development stages, Silvia will talk about how to get complete ‘chain of title’ – the contracts to acquire the copyright and intellectual property in the underlying rights and story. Moving on to pre-production and production, the talk then moves to contracting cast/crew in a cost-effective way. Finally, you will learn how to deal with and contract any investors and financiers and in talking about this last point, Silvia will also give you some tips about how to approach which kind of investor and financier and what sort of documents they would typically want to see.

Silvia will be joining us live from Germany on Friday 24th May from 3pm to discus the law in film. The first part of the session will be about legal processes and the second half will be dominated by your legal questions.

The talk is provided by Silvia completely free of charge, but is a physical event you need to attend and will not be available online. The session is expected to last around 90 mins.
